Speaker biography

Philip Johnson BSc (Hon) CEng joined London Transport Signal & Electrical Department in 1983 after graduating Southampton University in 1983 with a degree in electrical engineering. With the announcement of the closure of Lotts Road Power Station he decided to move to the Central Electricity Generating Board at the end of 1985 - but not until he paid £5 for “life membership” of the Technical Society! He spent 30 years with CEGB and latterly National Grid in System operations, including a four year stint in the USA, took early retirement in 2017 only to be bored stiff at home! He then took up a position with Orsted in 2018 as Lead Grid Connection Specialist designing the electrical systems for some of the worlds largest offshore windfarms and is now working on major new projects in Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. He is married and lives in Henley-on-Thames and has two grown up children.
