Welcome to the Signal and Electrical Engineers’ Technical Society (TechSoc)

TechSoc is based in London, UK and its origins are founded in London Underground signalling and electrical systems.

Our purpose is to offer information, lectures and events based around railway signalling and mass transit systems past, present and future. We do this through a programme of talks and visits and access to our library of technical and historic signalling related papers and publications which are available on-line or for loan to members of the Society.

Please feel free to attend any of our forthcoming talks as non-members are welcome. However, for just £7.50 you can join our society for one year and for £30.00 for life.

Obituary – John Murrell

It is with great sadness we have to report the passing of an active member of our Technical Society in July 2022. John was diagnosed with a brain tumour and passed away following a short and thankfully painless illness. John leaves a beloved sister and 3 great nieces.

Obituary – Brian Mellitt

Brian passed away earlier this month. There cannot be many who do not know the name or indeed had not met or worked with him over his considerable career in railways and transport. Brian was the Society President from 1986 until the mid-90s and gave a technical Presentation to the Society before leaving London Underground, moving to Railtrack to head up their Engineering Department. Brian joined LU from Birmingham University where he was Professor and Headed their Railway and Electrical Engineering teams.
