Welcome to the Signal and Electrical Engineers’ Technical Society (TechSoc)

TechSoc is based in London, UK and its origins are founded in London Underground signalling and electrical systems.

Our purpose is to offer information, lectures and events based around railway signalling and mass transit systems past, present and future. We do this through a programme of talks and visits and access to our library of technical and historic signalling related papers and publications which are available on-line or for loan to members of the Society.

Please feel free to attend any of our forthcoming talks as non-members are welcome. However, for just £7.50 you can join our society for one year and for £30.00 for life.

Our Next Talk

David Shipway

We were sorry to hear of the death of David Shipway in July. David was well known to Tech Soc and he continued to attend meetings well beyond his retirement in 2008. David’s career was over 37 years long and he played a significant role in pioneering computer signalling control and information systems, from the early Cobourg Street and Piccadilly Line Systems in the 1970s and 80s to the complex systems controlling moving block signalling on the Jubilee and Northern Lines post 2000. Colleagues and friends remember David’s professionalism as an engineer and manager, his calmness and gentle humanity. Outside work David loved the outdoors; including canoeing and walking, pursuits he shared with his wife Paula and children Jo and Toby. We honour his contribution to our technical and personal worlds.
